A One-year COVID-19 Pandemic Effect on the Orthopaedic Field in Indonesia: A Cross-sectional Multi-center Study

BACKGROUND: The World Health Organization announced the COVID-19 outbreak as a global pandemic on March 11, 2020. Despite fact that orthopedists are not considered front-line staff in fight against pandemic, has had an enormous impact orthopedics daily practice. A few studies have looked at effect field, but none of 1-year especially Indonesia. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This cross-sectional multi-center study was conducted seven tertiary referral hospitals Through hospital medical records, data were collected for year, starting from month Indonesian government first case (March 2020–February 2021) and compared to year before control 2019–February 2020). In addition, researchers analyzed number patients emergency room (ER), outpatient clinic, inpatient, operating room. RESULTS: Overall, orthopedic ER declined by 44% 11.053 6.139 during 1st with 28 reported getting COVID-19. clinic decreased 34%, 10.9780 72.200 patients, two confirmed cases. Furthermore, inpatient unit 15.365 9.526 38% decrease, highest recorded 78 patients. last, 73 confirmed, showed 27% reduction OR 12.954 9.431 CONCLUSION: this study, analysis field Indonesia shows significant decrease almost all units. LEVEL EVIDENCE: III, Cross-sectional study.
